proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal structure,

particularly the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication thus this is What Is Chiropractic.

Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It is sometimes used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment.

The initials “DC” identify a chiropractor, whose education typically includes a pre-med undergraduate degree plus four to five years of chiropractic college.

What Is Chiropractic ?
What Does Chiropractic for Back Pain Involve?

A chiropractor first takes a medical history, performs a physical examination, and may use lab tests or diagnostic imaging to determine if treatment is appropriate for your back pain.

The treatment plan may involve one or more manual adjustments in which the doctor manipulates the joints, using a controlled, sudden force to improve range and quality of motion. Many chiropractors also incorporate nutritional counseling and exercise/rehabilitation into the treatment plan. The goals of chiropractic care include the restoration of function and prevention of injury in addition to back pain relief.
What Are the Benefits and Risks of Chiropractic Care and What Is Chiropractic?

What Is Chiropractic: Spinal manipulation and chiropractic care is considered a safe treatment by what is chiropractic care, effective treatment for acute low back pain, the type of sudden injury that results from moving furniture or getting tackled in a football game. Acute back pain, which is more common than chronic pain, lasts no more than six weeks and typically gets better on its own.

What Is Chiropractic: Research has also shown chiropractic to
be helpful in treating neck pain and headaches.

In addition, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia may respond to the moderate pressure used both by chiropractors and practitioners of deep tissue massage. What Is Chiropractic: Studies have not confirmed the effectiveness of prolotherapy or sclerotherapy for pain relief, used by some chiropractors, osteopaths, and medical doctors, to treat chronic back pain, the type of pain that may come on suddenly or gradually and lasts more than three months. The therapy involves injections to strengthen loosely connected tendons and ligaments.

People who have osteoporosis, spinal cord compression, or inflammatory arthritis, or who take blood-thinning medications should not undergo spinal manipulation. In addition, patients with a history of cancer should first obtain clearance from their medical doctor before under going spinal manipulation.

What Is Chiropractic: All treatment is based on
an accurate diagnosis of your back pain.

The chiropractor should be well informed regarding your medical history, including ongoing medical conditions, current medications, traumatic/surgical history, and lifestyle factors. Although rare, there have been cases in which treatment worsened a herniated or slipped disc, or neck manipulation resulted in stroke or spinal cord injury. To be safe, with What Is Chiropractic: always inform your primary health care provider whenever you use chiropractic or other pain relief alternatives.

The Bridge and Variations described by Toronto Physiotherapist Dev Chengkalath:

An important component in low back pain rehabilitation is to stabilize the spine and pelvis while mobilizing the hips.

The basic bridge is an excellent exercise that accomplishes both the above goals.

Start by lying on your back, both knees bent and your hands by your sides.

From this position, brace your abdominal muscles without pushing your belly out or sucking it in. Basically, keep your stomach tight.

Contract your buttocks as you lift your hips off the ground and drive them towards the ceiling. Don’t let your pelvis shift side to side.

Focus on keeping your torso in the same position throughout the movement while hinging exclusively through your hips. Don’t sag or move through your back at all.

While squeezing through your glutes, try to keep your hamstrings or back of your thighs as relaxed as possible.

Remember to breath normally.

Complete your desired number of sets and repetitions.

Marching Bridge:

Start with the same set-up as the basic bridge.

At the top position, lift one leg up, keeping the knee bent and then return it back to the ground. Alternate between left and right legs while keeping the hips up, core tight and torso rigid.

One Leg Alternating Bridge

Same set-up as the previous two bridge variations, however, at the top position, alternate extending a leg out. Maintain your tight core, neutral spine and extended hip position while breathing normally.

One Leg Bridge:

This is the most challenging variation of the bridge discussed here.

Instead of starting with both knees bent, start with one leg extended out.

From this starting position, go through the bridging movement, keeping that leg extended.

Once you return to the starting position, alternate legs.

This variation is quite challenging and should only be attempted when you have mastered the other three variations.

Key points:

-only work in your pain free range
-keep your abdominal tight for the whole exercise
-all bridging movements should take place at the hips
-squeeze your glutes as your drive your pelvis up
-keep your hamstrings as relaxed as possible
-at the top of the basic bridge, alternate extending your knees
-at the top of the marching bridge, alternate lifting your bent knees
-at the top of the one leg alternating bridge, extend your leg at the knee
-start and end the one leg bridge with one knee bent and one leg straight
-breathe normally throughout the exercise

Causes Of Lower Back Pain

As we get older, our bodies tend to lose their muscle elasticity and tone, as well as bone strength. The discs in our spine lose fluid and flexibility, and they cant cushion the vertebrae as well anymore. Aging is one reason we get lower back pain.

If the muscles or ligaments in the back have a spasm, sprain or strain, the discs in the spine can rupture or bulge. That puts a lot of pressure on the nerves that are based in the spinal cord. When there is compression or irritation in those nerve roots, the back complains by giving us pain. What causes the back spasm, sprain or strain? Usually some form of trauma or injury, for example attempting to lift something too heavy, or overstretching.

Degenerative diseases like arthritis or osteoporosis can also cause lower back pain. Other potential factors are congenital abnormalities in the spine, viral infections and irritation to the joints and discs.

Some life conditions can also contribute to lower back pain. These include smoking, obesity, pregnancy weight gain, poor physical condition, stress, poor posture and poor sleeping position. Oftentimes, lower back and hip pain go hand in hand.

Causes Of Lower Back Pain

If you take proper care of your back in your day-to-day life, you can avoid lower back pain. Be sure to have correct posture and to lift with your legs (instead of using your back), as well as strengthening your back with exercises. Be sure that your workplace follows healthy ergonomics, planning ahead by having furniture and tools and such to avoid injury, as this can protect the body from lower back pain.
